Grab a cup of your favorite brew (or a glass of wine) and let’s chat about the differences between Minnesota Mini Sessions vs. Full Photo Sessions

Full Photo Sessions

Picture this: you’re twirling around with your kiddos in a whimsical field, the sun casting a warm glow on your faces. Cue the laughter and pure joy! It’s like taking a long, leisurely stroll through a treasure-filled park, capturing the essence of your family in all its glory. There’s no rush, no panic, no glaring at each other to smile before the time runs out. That’s the beauty of a full photography session.

I tend to recommend a full photo session for those special moments that deserve a little extra TLC. For example, if you’ve got a brand-new bundle of joy making their adorable debut, a full session will give us ample time to capture the delicate sweetness of those early days. Plus, it’s a lovely opportunity for you to take a well-deserved break and let the magic unfold naturally while I spend time capturing your little one. Remember, newborns and clocks don’t mix well, so we want to create a relaxed and stress-free environment for everyone involved!

Full photo sessions also involve way more control from the client standpoint. While I always offer clothing advice and location recommendations, a full photo session client can choose the date, location, time, length of the session, and a full gallery of 150+ images. These sessions typically run between 45 minutes all the way up to 90 minutes depending on your family’s needs.

Mini Sessions

Minnesota Mini Sessions are like bite-sized bursts of photography goodness. These sessions are always a blast and have their own magical power, but they are truly meant to be a quick snapshot of your family’s beautiful journey. They’re an ideal option for families with fussy little ones who might not be up for a full-blown session, if you are on a tighter budget, or you’re looking to have a themed session with a backdrop. For example, every year I host a mama and me mini session with florals and a backdrop! Check out some of the sneak peeks here.

Mini sessions leave out fewer decisions for the clients. Instead, I choose a date, location, and will offer several different time slots to choose from. These sessions are designed to be in shorter timeframe (between 10-20 minutes) and fewer photos compared to their full-session counterparts.

Which One Is Right For You?

Ultimately, whether you opt for a mini or a full session, the goal is always the same: to capture the magic and beauty of everyday moments. Consider your needs, desires, and budget. Whether you go for the full experience or a mini adventure, rest assured that we’ll create something extraordinary together. After all, it’s not just about the photos—it’s about the memories we make along the way.

Is there anything better than a mama with her boys? I absolutely adored this Minnetonka Family Photography session in the early summer months. Mallory and I connected a few weeks before her family session and discussed location/outfit options. She let me know that their house was decorated with many neutrals and greens and she was hoping to carry those colors into some family photographs. After hearing this, I went ahead and came up with three outfits options for her family. Most of the family already had items that would work for this session but Mallory did end up purchasing the youngest a gingham green romper from Quincy Mae.

Mallory also let me know she had three little boys, each with their own unique personalities. As a boy mom myself, I was excited to see the differences between each one. The two older boys talked about school and how old they were, even at one point both taking off their shoes and getting some little rocks out. The middle kiddo followed his older brother often, as one would expect! The both doted on their baby brother. Almost one year old, the baby was all smiles and just happy to be there. We ended our session with looking for plants and flowers and wondering back on the path.

One thing was certain: this family really loved being with each other. This entire session was full of laughs, exploring, and genuine connection. I always remind my clients that the best photos come from just being yourselves and having fun. This family certainly took that advice to heart and the results were stunning. Check out a few of my favorites from this Minnetonka Family Photography session!
